Funding for Research on Unintentional Drug Overdoses
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will award two R21 research grants to study Unintentional Poisoning from Prescription Drug Overdoses in Adults. 11/19/2009

$2 Million in Grants for Drug Research Using Existing Data
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) will award $2 million in grants to researchers who analyze existing social science and behavioral data to study the etiology and epidemiology of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, HIV risk behaviors, related disorders, prevention and treatment of these behaviors, and health service utilization including quality, access, and costs. 11/19/2009

Funding for Drug Abuse Doctoral Research
Higher-education institutions may apply for funding from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) that supports doctoral research into drug abuse epidemiology, prevention, treatment, and/or women and sex/gender differences. 11/19/2009

Health Impact Project Grants
Grants of up to $150,000 are available for initiatives that use Health Impact Assessment (HIA) techniques to help policymakers assess proposed projects and programs in terms of their impact on health consequences and costs. 11/19/2009

Community-based nonprofits can apply for grants from the J. Jill Compassion Fund, which supports programs that serve poor and homeless women. 11/19/2009

AMA Says Marijuana Has Medical Uses, Calls for More Research
Marijuana (cannabis) has been shown through limited research to have proven medical uses, the American Medical Association said in a new policy statement that also urges the federal government to consider moving the drug out of Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act in order to facilitate clinical research and development of cannabinoid-based medications.
