Legislation
States should review and update the legislation that controls their alcohol and drug policies including authorization for prevention and treatment agencies and alcohol control boards.
Laws and regulations that prevent recovering individuals from getting jobs, education and other services needed for successful reintegration should be reviewed and repealed.
What Other States Have Done
Washington's revised statute mandates high-quality prevention and treatment programs.

It requires treatment providers to implement comprehensive screening and assessment and authorizes services for children and families. The statute also requires an interdepartmental coordinating committee, and a citizen’s advisory council.
